Creative Ways to Give to Putnam Service Dogs
At Putnam Service Dogs, every gift—large or small—helps change a life. And giving doesn’t have to look like a traditional donation. From stock gifts to gift cards to donating a vehicle, there are many meaningful ways to support the dogs who go on to support people with disabilities.
Explore the options below to find the one that fits you best.
Send a Gift Card (Amazon or Chewy)
Our dogs eat, train, play, and learn every single day—and gift cards help us keep them stocked with exactly what they need.
How gift cards help:
- We can purchase the exact brands and training tools our program uses
- No guesswork for donors
- Direct support for our puppies, dogs-in-training, and volunteer raisers
Physical or digital gift cards from Amazon or Chewy are both welcome.
Appreciated Stock
A gift of appreciated stock is one of the most tax-smart ways to give.
Why it’s powerful:
- You receive a charitable deduction for the full current market value of the stock.
- You avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciated amount.
- We receive more funds to support the raising, training, and placement of our service dogs.
If you’re looking to make a meaningful impact in a financially efficient way, this is a wonderful option.
We have an account through Schwab that your donated stock can easily be transferred to.
"I proudly support four organizations that provide service dogs to individuals and families requiring the support provided by specially trained canines. I have been supporting Putnam Service Dogs for several years. Their dedication to their mission is a pleasure to follow. I comfortably recommend anyone interested in supporting such efforts to take a look at Putnam Service Dogs."

Donate a Vehicle (Car, Boat, Motorcycle & More)
You can turn your unused vehicle into lasting impact. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, and even boats can be donated and converted into cash to help train and place more service dog teams.
It’s simple, secure, and tax-deductible.
Please email us at info@putnamservicedogs.org to describe the vehicle you want to donate.
Why We Can’t Accept General Dog Supplies
We’re always grateful for the thought behind donations of collars, leashes, toys, and food. But because our service dogs follow a highly specialized training program, we use very specific equipment and training toys—not typical pet-store items.
To ensure consistency, safety, and success:
- We use designated training collars and leashes
- Our dogs need durable, hard-chewing toys (not easy to guess!)
- We follow strict nutrition and treat guidelines
- All equipment must align with service-dog standards
However, there is one exception: We can accept new or gently used large dog beds and crate pads (36” and up) — these help keep our dogs comfortable during rest and downtime.
For all other supplies: If well-intentioned items are dropped off, we typically re-donate them to a local shelter so they continue to help dogs in need.
